How to Rent an Aircraft
If you have a pilot’s license, you deserve to be prioritized in the major airlines’ timetables. In brief, you can rent yourself an aircraft at many airports across the state. Good news is, even if you don’t have a license, fleet operators and charter groups can fulfill all you needs and get you wherever you wish to go.
Check out Phase:
Step 1
Pay a visit at a fixed base operator (FBO), which manages and rents planes at an airport for charters, training and pleasure flights purposes.
Step 2
Proceed to the checkout with a certified flight instructor (CFI) to determine whether you can safely operate the aircraft. Unlike car rental companies, FBOs don’t presume that you are able to operate the plane simply because of your license. The checkout usually takes approximately two to five hours, encompassing basic flight maneuvers, emergency procedures, landings and stalls. For a single engine, fixed-gear aircraft, the checkout is pretty basic. However, for complex planes, which have retractable landing gear and variable pitch propellers, and include high-performance planes of 200 horsepower and above, longer checkout might be required. Multiengine aircraft have a highest complexity and will take even longer time.
Step 3
Pay close attention into renters insurance, which decides the regulations by which a visiting pilot can rent aircrafts. Additionally, your experience and your rating will verify the type of plane you can fly.
Step 4
Now it is time for you to fly. Regulations differ by FBO, but once you’re signed off by the CFI, you can fly aircraft in the same category as the one in which the test was administered. The checkout is valid for 90 days to six months, but only at that FBO.
Another Alternative: Join the club
Step 1
Join a local flying club, which you can find in the yellow pages under “Aircraft Charter, Leasing and Rental,” or check Landings.com for a flying club directory. These clubs may charge a membership fee plus regular dues and per-flight costs.
Step 2
Proceed through the club’s checkout to join. Once again, your experience will decides the type of plane you’re allowed to fly.
